CHRONOLOGICAL RESUME

Field Researcher, University of Chicago December 2018- June 2019, September-March 2020, June-August 2022

After MercyCorps, I wanted to continue practicing my interviewing and systems analysis skills in a more data-oriented field. This took the form of collecting and arranged data for the National Opinion and Research Center. I personally interviewed over five hundred families and childcare providers about their obligations and needs, which allowed for the balance of interpersonal interactions and abstract thinking. I became interested in technical writing through the monthly write-ups of the data I analyzed. This also sparked my interest in learning Ruby.

Journalist, Upwork  February 2017- October 2018, June 2021-August 2021, October 2023

I wanted to continue work that played with language, even as I developed a burgeoning talent for data analysis. This experience was also a chance to work on self-management, a skill I wanted to work on after working in a vast machine needed for NORC. All my writing projects (nearing 50 in total) have required independent and efficient oversight of multiple projects. This is all under strict deadlines, which helped balance out my personal need for polished documents with the financial demand for constant output.

Census Field Team, NAYA Family Center March 2020- Sept 2020

I wanted to use the interviewing and data collecting skills I learned at NORC and apply them directly to hjelp my local community. I also wanted to have a cross-cultural experience with an undeserved population. This resulted (on the recommendation of a friend) in year spent working for a Native Association. I gathered census information from Oregon residents and Indian Country in a confidential and competent manner. Importantly, I aided by core NAYA values while showcased the importance of the census by crafting pamphlets and creating video presentation for a rhetoric audience I wasn’t directly familiar with. I also co-ordinated COVID-19 direct relief efforts within a larger team, a hands-on experience that differed from my usual desk work.

Content Provider, MercyCorps  Jan 2017- September 2017

I was hired as a writer for MercyCorps (Jan-Sept. 2016), where I published two website articles every week. My writing covered international crisis points and possible solutions. The work also included regular maintenance of the front and back end of the news website. This journalism work was invaluable in creating a skill-set for analytic thinking, constructive inquisitiveness, and clear prose. Investigative aptitude, which was a key part of the work here, is still the skill I most enjoy utilizing within my work.
